The International Museum of the Horse
Chronicle of African Americans in the Horse Industry
International Museum of the Horse
4089 Iron Works Parkway Lexington, KY 40511 (859) 259-4232
The history of the horse industry in America cannot be separated from African American history. From slavery to agriculture to professional sports, one could say that the entire equine industry has been built on the backs of African Americans. Likewise, American culture was built around horses. Recognition of individuals, their contributions and achievements is long overdue, and the memory-holders are fading away. The ultimate goal of the Chronicle is to create an online, interactive archive to house and display photos, documents, artifacts, and oral histories. Users will be able to connect the past to the present.

Charlotte's Web
Lexington Children's Theatre 418 West Short Street, Lexington, KY 40507 Phone 859-254-4546
Charlotte's Web is a children's novel by American author E. B. White and illustrated by Garth Williams; it was published on October 15, 1952, by Harper & Brothers. The novel tells the story of a livestock pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a barn spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is in danger of being slaughtered by the farmer, Charlotte writes messages praising Wilbur (such as "Some Pig") in her web in order to persuade the farmer to let him live.
Written in White's dry, low-key manner, Charlotte's Web is considered a classic of children's literature, enjoyable to adults as well as children. The description of the experience of swinging on a rope swing at the farm is an often cited example of rhythm in writing, as the pace of the sentences reflects the motion of the swing. In 2000, Publishers Weekly listed the book as the best-selling children's paperback of all time.

Kentucky Citizens Against Animal Abuse and Domestic Violence
Statewide
We choose to support and work with our elected officials. We consider them friends who can help us achieve a better life for all vulnerable humans and their pets.
We are not Animal Rights Activists and we do not support the Humane Society of the United States. We do not support any legislation that would deny hunters their legal rights or traditions and will not support restrictive legislation regarding animal agriculture or regulatory restrictions on good farmers and breeders. We promote human and animal welfare and we promote them together because research has proven interpersonal violence and domestic pet cruelty are connected.
We welcome all individual Kentucky voting pet owners who want a safer life for domestic pets and themselves through better legislation that will protect them from those who would bring them harm by neglect, abuse or torture. Founder Dee Robinson!

The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society (DBCHS) has recently launched a new program known as Mutts with Manners to help homeless dogs have their day and find forever homes.
Sponsored by the DBCHS in conjunction with the Northpoint Training Center in Burgin, KY (Northpoint Trained Canines Program), the new program pairs carefully screened prison inmates with 5 shelter dogs for a 6-week period. Ten inmates, working together with a professional trainer, prison staff and volunteers, provide the dogs with basic obedience training, socialization, behavior modification, and one-on-one companionship. In the end the dogs participating in the program graduate with a wealth of valuable skills that help give them an increased chance (or a paw's up!) on finding a loving home. History of Old Friends Book :A Home for Retired Thoroughbreds Publisher: The History Press
This is the story of the creation of Old Friends, a Thoroughbred retirement farm in Georgetown, Ky., by Michael Blowen, who turned a dream into reality.
Like many before him in the Bluegrass State, Michael Blowen, a former Boston Globe entertainment writer, fell in love with horses, specifically Thoroughbreds. The reality beyond the racetracks, he knew, was that each day a Thoroughbred was in the spotlight, for some of these distinguished athletes, their days were numbered. For that reason, he dreamed of finding a way to give them a dignified retirement after they completed their rigorous racing careers. When he opened the Thoroughbred retirement farm Old Friends in Kentucky in 2003, he never dreamed his idea would grow so big, so fast. Today, Old Friends is home to more than 130 horses, many of them stallions, as well as geldings, mares and one loveable miniature horse named Little Silver Charm. Join journalist and horse lover Rick Capone for the story of Old Friends and the horses that call the arm home. 50% of the sales of this book is donated to Old Friends.

6th Annual ASPCA Help a Horse Day Kick Off
Across Kentucky
ASPCA Help a Horse Day is celebrated annually on April 26 – a date chosen for its significance to the ASPCA’s long history of horse protection. In 1866, ASPCA founder Henry Bergh stopped a cart driver from beating his horse, resulting in the first successful arrest for horse mistreatment on April 26 of that year. https://www.aspca.org/about-us/aspca-events/aspca-help-horse-home
The protection of horses has been a core part of the ASPCA’s life-saving efforts ever since. Each year, we host a national grant competition in honor of Help a Horse Day to elevate the work of equine rescues who help at-risk horses who’ve been abused, neglected or find themselves homeless. This year, we’re celebrating our fifth annual Help a Horse Day with a nationwide, two-month contest aimed at finding good homes for horses. In KY, visit

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program Open House
& BBQ
Mereworth Farm t 719 Dolan Lane Lexington KY 40511 (330) 518-9001.
New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program was founded in 1992 to offer retiring racehorses a safe-haven, rehabilitation, and continued education through placement in experienced, caring homes. Most of the horses arriving at New Vocations are injured and thin, suffering the normal occupational hazards of racing. Without a useful skill to offer their previous option was often a one-way ticket to the local livestock auction.
New Vocations provides a safety net for these horses matching them with qualified individuals and following up on their rehabilitation and vocational training to ensure a successful transition. Our focus is on adoption versus retirement, believing that each horse deserves to have an individual home and purpose.
Over 5,500 retired Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds have been placed in qualified homes through New Vocations’ efforts since its inception. These horses have come from 40 different racetracks and have been adopted by families throughout the country.
New Vocations has 3 scenic Ohio locations in Garrettsville, Laurelville, and Marysville. Other locations include: Lexington, Kentucky and Hummelstown, Pennsylvania.More Info: Please visit http://www.newvocations.org/
